Well, it won’t come as a shock to you by now to hear that we are indeed in the future now. New Year’s resolutions are really not my thing, I don’t see the point of giving yourself unreachable goals that will make you feel you for like 15 minutes and make you feel bad about yourself when you realise that you can’t actually go through with those resolutions. So I like to keep it simple: read for pleasure and watch movies.
Goodreads Reading Challenge
I’ve seen a couple for really crazy reading goals on Goodreads (have you seen BazPierce aiming to read 200 books? Who even does that?). On my part, I like to keep it “simple”. In 2014 I managed to read 65 books without trying too much, so I figured that I would keep the 50 books challenge for this year as well; only I actually entered 53 books because it’s the number of weeks in the year. One book per week. Seems manageable enough.
I could tell you that I want to read more of a specific genre, or more diversely, or whatever. The truth is, I don’t want to put any kind of pressure on myself; so what I plan to do is read things that I actually want to read, because I feel like it.
If you’ve seen my to-read shelf or kindle-tbr shelf on Goodreads, you know that I have a problem. I buy books a lot faster than I can read them, and it has become a bit of an embarrassment to be honest. I have just treated myself to a couple more books with the Christmas money I got, but after that, I really need to read as much of the books I already own and stop purchasing new ones. I’m not writing the words “book buying ban” on purpose, because we all know that this never works!
Tom Hanks Challenge
Way back in the day when LiveJournal was still a thing and I had one, I challenged myself to watch all of Tom Hanks’ movies in one year (this was back in 2009 if I’m not mistaken). If you did not know already, I love Tom Hanks! He is set to release a short-story-collection in the future (no date has been set by the publisher yet though 🙁 ), for which I am super excited! But I obviously adore him as an actor, and I am a little bit ashamed to admit that I have the worst memory ever and don’t remember some of his movies (even though you can see here that I did watch them all at some point). This will not be easy I gather, a couple more movies came out since 2009, and 3 new ones are set to come out in 2015.
Harry Potter Challenge
This one is probably the easiest one so far: re-watching all the Harry Potter movies. Since I re-red the series in 2014, it seems only fitting to re-watch all the movies in 2015. There’s only 8 and I already saw 2, so I’d say I’m on track. What about you? What are your New Year’s resolutions and/or goals? Are you braver than me and intent to tackle “personal” resolutions (go to the gym, eat better, etc.) or are you lazy like me and just want to read and watch movies?
